How to turn off AI training in GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot Free / Pro / Pro+

Steps: Profile → Copilot settings → 'Allow GitHub to use my data for AI model training' → Disabled.

Why it matters: Since April 24, 2026, prompts, code snippets and context are used for training unless you opt out.

GitHub Copilot Business / Enterprise

Steps: Not needed: Business/Enterprise data isn't used for training. Admins manage Copilot policies under the enterprise AI controls tab or organization settings.

Why it matters: No training on Business/Enterprise data, admin policies, GitHub's DPA, and Copilot Business/Enterprise are in GitHub's SOC 2 Type II report. Editor prompts aren't retained; other surfaces keep them 28 days.
